Dress Code

We invite you to come as you would like to be remembered.

In keeping with Chinese tradition, Lauren will wear red to honor the customs and heritage of her ancestors. We kindly ask guests to refrain from wearing this color, so its significance may be reserved for the bride and honored in all of its meaning on our wedding day.

Broom Jumping Ceremony

As part of our celebration, we will honor the tradition of jumping the broom. For African people in the diaspora, this ritual holds deep cultural and historical meaning. It symbolizes sweeping away the past, clearing negative energy, and stepping into a new life together with love and intention. It also honors the memory of ancestors who were denied legal marriage during enslavement.

We include this tradition in reverence, love, and remembrance, as a way of carrying its legacy forward.
